Mood Board (Week Two)

Image
~Mood Board~ In this mood board I will be finding images that portray a vibe that is melancholic, nostalgic, depressing and heavy in some scenes yet airy and light in others: This is the mood board that my partner Rachael Kohler made, she used a couple of films that I listed in my Inspiration board post e.g. Euphoria and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I like these images in showing Sarah's despair and sense longing for a better life - a lot of these images scream, "I am lost and need help but I have no idea where to start, or how I even got here." which I love for representation of who Sarah is as a character and even just as a person. Some great song that I believe would also build a similar feeling are: For Classical-  - The Theme From Schindler's List -  Vladimir's Blues Modern and Trending Melancholic Songs -  - Daylight by David Kushner  - Landslide by Fleetwood Mac

Inspiration Board (Week Two)

Good morning / Afternoon Everyone! Today we will be going over the movies and shows that have inspired Her Slow Disappearance and portrays the characters the way we wanted to represent them to the audience.  Some examples of the movies I would like to in a sense "mimic" would be the following (I will also be including why they are good references): - Beautiful Boy (2018) 1. Parent–child perspective -  The story focuses heavily on the   parent’s emotional devastation . - It shows addiction not just as self-destruction, but as something that fractures family relationships. 2. Naturalistic cinematography -  Soft lighting, handheld camera work, muted color grading. - Makes everything feel intimate and painfully real. - Great inspiration if you want your short film to feel grounded and raw rather than stylized.                                  3. Emotional tone  ...

Lighting Research (Week Two)

Image
For the 8 week project me and my partner Rachael Kohler wanted it to give off two very distinct vibes a dark melancholic energy, and a vibrant energetic one that seems almost fast forwarded.  a good example for the lighting we were aiming for in the darker scenes is the new Nosferatu( 2024) The lighting in Nosferatu(2024) is meant to show  a return to classical gothic horror, evoking the moody, low-light atmosphere of early silent cinema while prioritizing the  "monochromatic," cyan-tinted reality of human sight in near-darkness. However, we wanted this lighting in the movie to represent her distraught and drug lacking mind, comparatively, the more vibrant coloring/lighting to represent her state of mind after doing drugs and being in what she believes to her happy place. The vibrancy and bright lighting in this scene(and many others) in Barbie represents the feeling we were hoping to project in certain scenes.

Film Genre Research (Week Two)

Film Genre Research: Week 2 - Oppenheimer (2023) ___________________________________________________________________________________ Hello and welcome all, whether you are new or a recurring reader, I am glad to have you here! Today we will be doing more research for the drama genre I hope to become well accustomed too during the 8 week long period my partner and I will be producing our project. In case you missed the movie poster, we will be learning more about Christopher Nolans 2023, Oppenheimer, a dramatization of real world situation that happened in the mid 19th century during a war.  Camera Shots, Angles, Movement, Focus & Framing: The opening five minutes of   Oppenheimer   immediately establish psychological intensity through close-ups and rapid shifts in perspective. Nolan uses extreme close-ups of Oppenheimer’s eyes and face, creating intimacy and suggesting internal conflict. The shallow depth of field isolates him from the background, symbolizing hi...

Project Plan/Storyline (Week One)

Image
Project Plan/Storyline  The name of the "movie" is going to be Her Slow Disappearance. The story will revolve around a teenage girl named Sarah. Sarah is experiencing severe depression and to quell all of her intense emotions she submerges herself in drugs and alcohol, however the drugs will be more prevalently shown in the 2 minute movie beginning.  Story Board: First 3 panels depict the opening scene where Sarah is discovered dead in the shower after overdosing while panels 4-6, follow the beginning of a flash back of how the audience got to that moment with her lying on the shower floor. Panels 7-10 show Sarah discovering her usual drug ration is empty, in these scenes it will be vital for Rachael Kohler, the actor who plays Sarah, to show the extreme distress that Sarah feels in this moment of uncertainty. Following along to panels 11-18, you will see boxes either highlighted in pink or orange . The two colors represent different ending/storylines me and my partner were ...
