Movie Poster (Week Eight)

Image
Today I had the very important job of creating out movie poster! This was my first time ever really creating something such as this so I was very excited to see the end result.  Because I have never created a movie poster before, I did a bit of research online finding examples and little cheat sheets that reminded me of what to include.  I used Harry Potter (a classic that I adore~) as my baseline. Zooming in and out trying I tried to figure out what some of the smaller text said to keep my finished product a bit more accurate, but because I was having a bit of trouble I found a draft (included below) to help explain the different pieces that go into movie posters and their significance.                              And this is the finished product, TADA! - I was able to find the rating insignia online, making it easy to copy and paste it without having to create my own. I also used three different font...

Editing #3 (Week Seven)

Image
~ Editing Day Three ~ Welcome to day three of editing! Here we focused on lighting, making the scenes with Sarah darker and moodier as well as adding blur  and a warp effect  to the POV scenes to add not only realism, but put the viewers in the characters shoes.

Editing #2 (Week Seven)

~ Editing Day Two ~ When we were filming, we didn't think about the composition of the argument so I ended up having to try to stitch together two different takes and make it seem like one.  It wasn't perfect but I think its close enough. With one of the actors out of the country we didn't have the time to reshoot..

Editing #1 (week seven)

Production Label During this day of editing, one of the most important things we worked on was fitting the production label to the screen as well as figuring out where we wanted the title to be and how we should write it.  After a bit of discussion, we agreed that we landed on having the timeline be - opening scene: present day, fade to black screen where production label is shown, fade again into our title screen that overlays to the flashback.

Update (Week Seven)

Welcome to week seven of our eight week project! To be frank, week six was during our schools spring break so we took a bit of a break on working through the last finishing touches of the final product. However we are now back and this week we will start to assemble the movie scenes. In the coming days, we will dive into crafting dynamic camera angles, applying continuity editing, experimenting transitions, and fine-tuning soundscapes. Stay tuned as we blend shot choices, editing rhythms, and audio layers to shape the final film experience. As we returned from break, our first task was to get organized. We started by importing all our footage into the e diting software and faced the fun, and challenging part - choosing out best takes! with multiple versions of some scenes, we compared the performance and continuity, from there deciding with shot captured the emotion or fit the flow best. once chosen we began ordering the scenes, laying the foundation for next weeks deeper / fine-t...

Midterm Connection (Week 5)

Image
~ Midterm Connection ~ Good morning! I just realized that I never showed you all me and Rachael's Midterm... You may all be thinking, "So what Eva, we don't care about your midterm-" WRONG! you totally should because it was the inspiration for this film (more like the original of Her Slow Disappearance )  We loved the concept and so did our class, however they all had a ton of feedback, mainly that we were focusing on the wrong things in the short time frame we had. Their main concerns were that while they loved our bold and initial showing of drug abuse, we stranded slightly from the plot and didn't cover all the things they would have preferred to see, i.e: allotted to much time to the kitchen scene.  Well that's all! I'll insert the video below, enjoy :)

Significance of the Shot Duration (Week Five)

~ Significance of the Shot Duration ~ Hi there! I thought that it might be a good idea to go over the significance of the shot duration in Her Slow Disappearance , You'll notice that in the film, the speed at which cuts are made and the general pacing of the film as a whole reflect the mood and emotions of Sarah throughout it. The faster cuts, can mean two things, either it is to represent the speeding up of time as a side effect of Sarah's drug use, or to represent high emotions between the character on the screen and the situation they would be presently facing. For example, in the rapid POV shots between Sarah and her mother in the beginning of the film, emotions are high, Sarah is scared and frustrated about the missing presence of her drugs - she is desperately searching for her next high -  and her mother is anxious and nervous, worried for her daughters future and questioning her decisions and beliefs as she discovers her daughters drug baggy.  In comparison the slow, d...

Production Label (Week Five)

Image
~ Production Label Comparison ~ So me and Rachael were thinking about our production label, and realized that while it did the job for our midterm, we wanted to revamp it a bit for our final production. This is our original production label -    we wanted to go for a darker vibe that fit the films theme, and after much trial and error, we got one that we are pretty happy with! The lowercase lettering gives a more effortless classy vibe in our opinion, and the changed gradient of light to dark is appealing as well.
